The Fall of the Berlin Wall Reunited His Family
Stefan’s dad escaped East Germany at the age of 24. His Grandmother and Uncle lived on the other side of the Wall suffering under the brutal communist regime.
In high school his dad took him to East Germany. This visit opened his eyes to the horrors of life under a dictatorship and taught him one of the key messages in his speeches: We cannot and must not take freedom for granted! One of Stefan’s most joyful moments in life was in November of 1989 when he received a little piece of concrete in the mail from his uncle from East Germany - he had hammered it out of a wall that had just fallen down, the former Berlin Wall!
